Luckily, things such as apps, wearable fitness trackers and more make it much easier for you to live a healthier life.

What’s better, you can save this information so you can refer back to in weeks or even months down the line. It provides a great visual to keep you motivated as you see your time decrease or the number of miles you’ve run increase. Many smartwatches now offer these apps, though you’ll still have to a carry your phone with you to log the miles.

Whether you work out at home or the gym, it’s important to track and plan your sets and reps. Thanks to smartphones, you no longer have to carry around a piece of paper to keep track. You can and should use an app that allows you to detail your routines. This means how many reps you did, what areas you worked out that day and the amount of weight you used. Most also have a calendar where you can plan your workout and rest days.

Of course, the usefulness of said app is only as good as the person who uses it. You need to set some clear and reachable goals if you want to see progress. Once you know what you want to achieve, you’ll know the exact workouts you need to do, how many sets and more.

If you’re not motivated enough to go to the gym by yourself, an accountability app might be just the thing you need. These allow you to share your workouts with the community, get hints, feedback and support. For many people, sharing their goals and tracking their progress online is enough motivation to go to the gym. If you need even more motivation, there are even some apps where you can earn money simply by completing your workouts. That’s right. Of course, if you miss it, then you lose money. Short on cash? There are other apps where you can bet things such as chores or favors. So if you really don’t want to do those dishes, you should hit the gym.

Eating right goes hand in hand with fitness. If you don’t eat well, then you won’t truly be fit. Luckily, there are numerous meal planning, nutrition tracking and calorie counting apps available. Not only can these apps help you find some tasty and healthy recipes, they can also educate you on the nutritional value of other food you eat. Not sure if that granola bar is good for you? There are apps that can analyze the content and then grade it. By taking an active interest in the food you put into your body, you’ll ultimately make healthier choices. Of course, that doesn’t mean you can’t eat a cupcake or pie. It just means you can’t eat it all the time.

So long as you set a goal for yourself, there’s no reason you can’t get fit with the help of technology. Remember, though, you still need to do the heavy lifting. And, of course, remember to take advantage of these apps and wearable fitness trackers. If you haven’t worked out in a while, take it slow. There’s no need to push yourself too hard, as it can cause injury. The key thing is to keep it consistent.
